click for some good media lady outfits
So ELLE has this cool new series called “Clothes of Our Lives” that spotlights what powerful women specifically wear, and I like placing this first piece on the Ann Taylor tunic that NYT foreign correspondent Rukmini Callimachi wears when reporting on ISIS within the long tradition of everyone being morbidly fascinated with what working women wear. It reminded me a lot of this LIFE magazine exhibit that was in NY last summer and this spread in particular, featuring some of the first mega famous female photojournalists:

(Tag yourself, esp. if you’re feeling the ~Martha Holmes casually wearing culottes while perching on rubble~ energy here).
The good news, of course, is that we’ve come a long way from wondering why professional women are not just wearing full skirts 24/7, but it’s interesting that Callimachi herself says she’s still figuring out how to negotiate being “serious” versus being “too feminine” out here in **checks watch morosely** 2020.
Psssst today is Deez Links’ fourth birthday!!! To celebrate you can A) tweet us some love & positive energy, and/or B) hit up our merch shop for one of these babies!!
