About that WaPo reporter’s tweet debacle...
You probably saw parts of this whole Washington Post / Felicia Sonmez situation on your timeline over the past two days, but this column from media critic Erik Wemple lays out what happened, who’s officially saying what, and why of course, it is pretty appalling for one of the national papers of record to respond in such a dramatic way to uhhh let me check my notes……..one of their reporters choosing to complicate The Narrative by sharing previously published journalism???
(To be completely fair, I agree that posting a screenshot with visible email addresses from people is Not Cool — though it’s iiiinteresting to note that this is not the reason WaPo gives officially for putting Sonmez on suspension. But also ummmm it seems like if someone sends your reporter explicit death threats…...maybe move “privacy of death threat sender” down to the #2 slot on your list of priorities at least while you make sure your employee is safe??)
