A little note from me…
Thank you for making another year of the freelance life possible :)
I’ve been writing Deez Links for 10 years, but only in the last two of those years have I been able to make a bit of a living off the newsletter, which still feels like a stroke of dumb luck. Thank you to everyone who has supported Deez Links with a paid subscription since May 2024 — we may have aged a thousand centuries on the internet since then, but hey, we did it together. Thanks for sticking with me throughout the linking and experimenting; it’s never not a little ridiculous to personally partake in the subscription economy, but I still have so much fun with this newsletter every day, and I appreciate you for seeing the vision, for indulging the jokes, for texting/emailing back with corroborating gossip and takes.
I want to take a chance to give a special thank you to Ruth Ann Harnisch, whose support of Deez Links (and Hate Read!) has been nothing short of life-changing. Quite possibly the most obvious and under-covered story in media right now is the extent to which Ruth Ann has been championing so many voices in indie media following her own career in journalism. She gets it, and thus she makes it easier for the rest of us to construct the media landscape we wish to see.
Looking ahead to the next year, I want to pay it forward and to make things easier for readers who are college students, or who are in their first few years of their career, or who are dealing with a layoff or job hunt that’s stressful enough in itself.
