'99: a good year for Wintour puns & print mags
While you’re still luxuriating in the last dregs of content from Monday night’s Met Ball, do your inner Emily Charlton a favor and read this salaciously yummy 1999 New York mag cover story on Anna Wintour that @tedhartii pulled out of the archives yesterday:
It’s a crazy hop into the time machine back to the days when Anna Wintour was already firming up her icon status, magazines pretty much did whatever they fucking wanted, and oh yeah, this fun little world wide web thing felt oh-so-modern and portended absolutely no sense of doom, no sir:
The Internet and its potential seem to genuinely delight Wintour, though she admits she still has trouble sending e-mail. When I mention Vogue’s sleek new Internet site, she turns instantly animated, chatting excitedly about e-commerce and the site’s picture quality.
Oh, were we ever so young!
